Tinder’s dark mode has come and gone depending on your platform and app version. On some versions you will find an appearance option in Settings, on others the app follows your phone’s system theme, and on some it simply stays light. Here is where to check, what to try if it is missing, and other ways to get a darker screen for late-night swiping.
How to check for dark mode in Tinder
Tinder updates its app often, and features can roll out to some users or countries before others. So the steps are a guide rather than a guarantee.
On Android
- Update Tinder from Google Play.
- Tap your profile icon, then Settings.
- Scroll for anything like Appearance, Theme or Dark mode.
- If there is no option, turn on your phone’s system dark mode (Settings > Display > Dark theme on most phones) and restart Tinder.
On iPhone
- Update Tinder from the App Store.
- Open Profile > Settings and look for an appearance or theme option.
- If there is none, go to iPhone Settings > Display & Brightness and choose Dark, then close and reopen Tinder.
On tinder.com
The website’s support for dark mode has varied. Check your account settings first. If nothing is there, your computer’s system dark mode might apply, and if not, a browser extension that darkens websites is the fallback. Expect some images or buttons to look a little off with extensions. If you swipe from a laptop often, see our guide to using Tinder on PC.
If dark mode still doesn’t show up
- Restart the app after changing your phone’s theme. Some apps only check the theme on launch.
- Update the app. Older versions may not support it.
- Wait for a rollout. Tinder sometimes tests features with a portion of users first.
- Try your phone’s accessibility options. Android has a “color inversion” setting and iPhone has “Smart Invert”. These are rough, since they also invert photos on some devices, but they work in a pinch.
- Lower the brightness and use a night light or warm filter. Night Light on Android and Night Shift on iPhone do not make the app dark, but they reduce glare and blue light in the evening.
Why dark mode is worth it
Many people swipe in the evening, often in bed. A bright white screen in a dark room is harsh on the eyes and can make it harder to wind down. Dark mode also saves some battery on phones with OLED screens, because black pixels use less power. And for a lot of people, it simply looks better.
How Spoofy helps
If dark mode in Tinder is missing on your version, Spoofy offers one that always works. Spoofy is a free companion app that works with your existing Tinder account. It is not affiliated with Tinder.

Spoofy’s Dark mode applies across the app: your recommendations, the Multi-Liker grid, messages and settings. It is available in the Android APK and in the web app at app.sspoofy.com, which runs in any browser, including on iPhone and laptops.
While you are in there, a few other features pair well with late-night use:
- Gentle reminders with quiet hours: reminders stay silent during the hours you choose.
- Private by design: hide names in notifications, lock the app with a PIN or fingerprint, and disguise the app icon as Weather, Notes, Calculator or Clock.
- Multi-Liker: see a grid of recommendations at once instead of one bright card after another.
- Messages and Your turn: see which chats are waiting on you, with your best openers one tap away.
You sign in with your normal Tinder login, Spoofy never stores your password, and everything you do shows up in Tinder as usual. Using a third-party app is your own choice, so have a look at is Spoofy safe if you want the details.
